You almost miss it. There’s a transparent box of some sort. So transparent you have to struggle to see it. It seems to be open.
And there’s a tiny thing inside it. It looks like some kind of thorn. It’s also glowing a strange color.
Carefully, you close the barely-visible lid to the box. The thorn keeps glowing. But the creatures suddenly turn towards you. Was that glowing thing somehow confusing them?
What in the hells did you just do? the wizard’s voice asks. A whole load of ether just floated up from the roof.
“I closed the lid on an invisible box,” you reply. “There was some kind of glowing needle inside it.”
Invisible box? What in the hells is it doing there? And… wait a minute. Glowing needle? Not a blob that looks as though it’s made from quicksilver?
“Quicksilver!” you exclaim. “That’s a metallic liquid, isn’t it? Because I see two… no, make that three… creatures that look like they might be made of it.”
Hells! You didn’t touch them, did you?
“Only with my sword, and I definitely haven’t touched the weird stuff dripping off it.” You do remember hearing something about quicksilver being deadly.
Listen very carefully. There’s something important you need to do.
You need to scratch the floor with your sword, draw a circle, and then draw a holy symbol inside of it, ir you stand on it, the creatures won’t be able to get you
You need to cut your hair
You need to shout words of reassurance
Need to get rid of that box or spine somehow, but you can’t touch it, use a tool
Now that the creatures seem more lucid, you need to lead them to the ends of the roof, where the wizard will take care of them, or trick them into jumping off
