Its shape resembles a huge bird, but it’s got no feathers and seems to be made out of metal. Some sort of liquefied metal, at that – your sword just slices right through it, and gets covered in whatever the hells it’s made of.
“And what do I do if hitting it with a sword doesn’t work?” you ask.
There’s no answer. That’s when you realize that the mental link was a spell, so it must no longer be active.
Fortunately, your sail soon lands on the roof, so you grab that and wrap it around the creature. If creature is even the right word for something like this. It seems confused on what to do and starts stumbling around. You’re not sure what it’s trying to do, or even if it’s trying to do anything at all.
Then another liquid metal creature appears, as if from nowhere. This one has a more humanoid shape. In fact, it somewhat resembles you. Its head looks like your mask, and one of its arms is a sword.
However, it’s just waving its sword ineffectively at the sail. As though it expects something to happen without physically interacting with the sail.
Whatever these things are, they seem very confused by, well, everything around them. So they’re probably not hostile. Or if they are, they don’t understand how to act on it.
And you’re not sure if it’s even possible to harm them. Do you even want to? This seems firmly in the realm of “magic stuff that shouldn’t be handled without consulting a wizard”. But you don’t know how to get in touch with the wizard again.
Maybe you can at least mitigate the problem with using magic here. You look around to see if there’s anything else on the roof besides the strange creatures.
You’re drawn to an ominous, pointy, boney thing… (it’s a spine)
They’re hard to spot, and they don’t seem to be of the same size, but they look similar, you see four antenna-like things on each corner of the roof
There’s an awful lot of loose tinfoil around, what is it about?
You find a hidden egg-like thing, with goop similar to the creatures, they probably spawned from here
