The map indicated the headwaters of the river, the Storyteller explains. This was strange, as the headwaters were high up in the mountains and had not been visited by anyone in Mindo since the map was made. Yet apparently, these two spent most of their time there. Puzzled, the two set out to investigate, and perhaps find the pair.
The Storyteller paces around, and motions to you to follow. You end up near the gateway where you started.
The journey was difficult, but Kenton luckily was able to make use of some of the tools she had brought along, the Storyteller continues. If I were telling this story to a child, I would go into more detail, as they tend to enjoy hearing about the various obstacles and the clever solutions Kenton and Afer came up with. But I will be more focused here, and talk about what they found when they arrived. There was a cottage, but it had barely anything in it. There were two beds, but they were stripped bare. There were cabinets and cupboards, but they were all empty. The two outsiders seemed to have disappeared in the same strange manner as their supposed victims.
Suddenly and unexpectedly, the magical gateway starts glowing.
And it’s time for us to do the same. Though with fewer belongings, as it’s hard to carry much along with us in etherform. I’ll be bringing the map, and I’ll need you to grab something before it fully activates and takes us through. As it happens, it’s the same kind of object that Kenton and After found, which served as a clue to where the priest and the woodcutter were.
It’s called a mudpike
