So you decide to take another approach. Instead of using ether on the box itself, you can set something in motion to damage it. As you resolve to do this, you feel the pain subside.
You can age things, and alter their speed. You can also revert things to a previous state, but that takes work to maintain. Still, it might be useful.
What you want to do is get something moving towards the crack in the box, then speed it up. Even if you remove your influence afterwards, enough momentum should remain to cause damage.
