Swamped Chapter 201 Page 19

The first matter of concern is that you can very clearly see the hospital. Which was nowhere near where you entered the demon. Why is it even here?

That, however, is not nearly so concerning as that you see a metallic blob on the roof. Because you know precisely what it is and it means nothing good.

Time ether is the stuff of legends. But there’s another ether type that doesn’t commonly get used – not because of a lack of knowledge, but because it’s incredibly dangerous.

This blob is infused with what’s known among wizards as quicksilver ether. Not only is it poisonous, and highly corrosive, but it can corrupt other ether. Even in etherform, you’re not safe from it. There’s no record of it ever being used without killing the caster.

And yet, here it is. In a relatively stable form. And you can tell that it’s slowly dissolving the roof under it.

That isn’t your biggest worry, though. Your biggest worry is that the last time you checked, there was some sort of magical gateway on the roof. You don’t understand its nature very well, but you do know one thing.

It’s made of ether. Which means the quicksilver ether can corrupt it. With results you have no hope of predicting.

Your first thought is that this may be what you’re meant to protect the captive wizard against. But then a stranger thought crosses your mind.

What if quicksilver is somehow the “right magic”?

Well, for a start you have no idea how to use it safely. But even if you could resolve that issue, you’d need some idea of what to even do with it.

Suggestions:

The light you’re holding could be the key to success, as it has proven to be kind of a defensive, purifier type of ether. Probably a good idea to see how it reacts to the stuff, but it is risky to get close it, here’s a few ideas:

See if you can rip or trap a little bit of the light, then throw it at the blob

Use your ether split strategy in order to only send a small piece of you with the entire light

If using the light is not an option, then try to look for something physical that could contain it even if just temporarily, just to take a closer look. Like something made of metal
