She points to a hook poking out of a rock wall.
“In the theater, we attach pulleys to hooks like that. Most often they’re used for curtains, but they’re also helpful for moving backdrops or large props. Sometimes we even attach them to actors to make it look like they’re flying.”
“Huh, there’s a lot of those hooks now that you mention it,” Norle mutters. “Never given ’em much thought before. Maybe there was a big pulley system and we just stopped using it for some reason. Maybe somebody just grabbed the rope.”
“Hmm, yes, I think we can work with that if we get a long enough rope, and of course some pulleys,” Chald mutters. “Getting the materials in place shouldn’t be too complicated once we have them. That might take a trip into town…”
“I can get some stuff from the troupe’s supplies,” Minnie replies. “Won’t take long, and I won’t be much help in watching them anyways. I can even look for a decent-sized cart while I’m up there.”
“We can probably put something together to transport them on the pulley,” Lef suggests. “If it’s just for carrying them up there, it doesn’t need wheels, it can just be a box. Even just a big panel of wood and some rope would be passable, at least.”
“I might be able to work with some stuff from the cathedral,” Norle mutters. “I’m no carpenter, but I can probably shape it into something sturdy enough for our purposes with my magic.”
“I’ll go over there, then. We need you here to keep them asleep,” Lef replies. “I should be able to pick things out.”
Everything seems under control, for the moment. You think this is a good time to examine the passage on the other side of the wall. You inform Norle that’s what you plan to do, and then you head through the wall.
It’s very strange that a tunneler even made it here unnoticed, but it’s not long before you find something else that seems quite out of place.
– It’s more crystals, like the big one, except these are scattered throughout the passage and appear to be growing, like a plant
– It’s a message on the walls, that can only be seen at a certain angle, someone familiar wrote it
– It’s the same type of eggs you saw at the cathedral, except these ones have already hatched
– It’s a small hut, looks a little worn down but lived in and in good shape
