The spine Vasco had was originally on Jack Flame’s ship, specifically where Shume was working. Shume has a connection to these people. That spine might have been on this vessel.
With the help of some time magic, you refresh your memory on what happened with it. You had a plan for holding yourself in a physical object and attaching an ethereal boundary to it in order to escape the boundary around the ship. However, it turned out that attaching an ethereal boundary to a spine turned it into an ether trap.
In that case, you were trying to escape the boundary. Thinking about it further, you’re not sure it would work so well on the way in. It didn’t work out the way you planned anyhow.
But if you took the fused spine, and cast a boundary on it to turn it into an ether trap… then perhaps you could trap the vessel’s boundary inside. You rush back to the hospital, ask Vasco to put the spine into a small box so you don’t have to take any risks casting on it directly, and then carry the box back as best you can. You’re actually having to respect physical boundaries, but fortunately someone left a window open.
Onder asks what you’re doing, but you don’t have time to answer. Halfe and Falda are bickering again outside, with Burth trying to break it up, so you’re still unnoticed. At least by that trio.
You move the box near the vessel, mode the the fused spine out and wedge it into a crack, and start casting a boundary spell on it.
A moment later, there’s a huge hole in the vessel’s boundary. Unfortunately, that seems to have caused a significant side effect.
The floor is breaking apart! Oh no
