Swamped Chapter 142 Page 30

“I’m with Matilda Laikenne,” you reply. Might as well see how they react.

They whisper to each other for a bit.

“Well, the girl who plays her hasn’t been with Golden Rose for that long,” the woman replies after they conclude their little talk. “So you’re saying you’re with her, but not with the troupe per se?”

“More or less. I live in this town and I’m staying here when they leave.”

“Good enough for me,” the woman says.

“Leon’s not going to be happy about it, though,” the man grumbles.

“He doesn’t have to know, does he?” the woman asks.

“I feel I am missing something here,” Drip interjects.

“I think I know. They’re with the Tangled Bells,” you explain. “Leon’s their leader. He and the Golden Rose leader can’t stand each other. I know I heard a lot of complaining when he found out you were coming to town.”

“There’s more to it than that, as you might have guessed from the fact that we’re here,” the woman replies. “But, as your friend suggested, we can explain that on the way. I’m Mina, by the way.”

“Arlene,” you respond, shaking her hand. “This priest told me to call him Drip, some ritual thing.”

“And I’m Bert,” says the man. “Now, what’s this about the stage?”

You lead them back. They hear the chanting for themselves.

“Right. Don’t know what that means, but I think we’d best make a move soon,” Mina says. “Any ideas for how to approach this?”

Suggestions:

We could slip around and enter from backstage, but we don’t know what we’re getting into. Someone should try to sneak onto the lantern catwalk above the stage to scope out the situation and report back.
