Swamped Chapter 142 Page 21

There’s singing, and it sounds like it’s coming from the statue. It doesn’t sound much like Drip’s voice, but maybe he sounds different when he’s singing. Or maybe he found another lizard that specializes in song.

But what really makes it impossible to miss is the light. There’s a glow around the statue that keeps changing colors. You really don’t know how he pulled that trick off. Could be useful to learn if you ever get in a show again after the acting troupe leaves town.

For now, though, you’re trying to set up a different distraction. It’s definitely got everyone’s attention, giving you a chance to run past the butcher’s and put down the lizards in an alleyway. Then you start running back, and grab a rock. Should be able to rile them up with that from a safe distance.

It’s just as well, because two of the guards have gone poking at the statue.

“You ever heard of color-changing glow moss?” one of them asks. “I sure haven’t. But there’s a lantern full of it right here.”

“I’m trying to get up to the head. Whatever’s making it sing must be there. Someone give me a lift,” says another.

It turns out to be a fair amount of effort to get him up to the statue’s head. Indeed, all but one wind up helping him reach it, with the last keeping a close eye on the cage.

And that gives you a chance to see what’s in it.

If you didn’t know better, you’d think it were a sea creature. …Those chitinous claws, yikes!
