“Mostly, I want you out of the way,” Sister Kenton grumbles. “Nothing personal, it’s just that I’m trying to keep the amount of ether being thrown around to a minimum. Some of our artifacts are ether-sensitive. But there are places on this ship where you shouldn’t go, so I can’t have you just waiting anywhere.”

I’d like to be useful, if that’s possible, you reply.

“I think the most useful thing you can do right now is keep an eye out for ethereal sabotage, probably on the hooks,” she muses. “I heard you were going to investigate the missing hats, but we’ve got a handle on that.”

Are you sure? There was a jacket moving in the laundry, you tell her. Seemingly controlled by ether. The person controlling the hooks had a similar jacket, and I already stopped them from being attacked by it.

Sister Kenton gets a concerned and frustrated look on her face.

“Okay, well. It sounds like we might need to know more details on that,” she concludes. “But I don’t have time to hear them right now, or to act on them even if you did tell me. Neither does our mutual friend. If you had a physical form I’d send you to the captain, but she can’t see ether without aid. Ether detection is uncommon among priests, because apparently it conflicts with getting impulses from the gods. That has something to do with detecting auras, from what I understand. People like me, who are in religious orders and can use magic… well, we’re not very common.”

She sounds like she doesn’t want to go into detail on that.

“But we do have another one on this ship. I don’t trust him completely, but I trust him not to run his mouth about things to everyone on board, and that’s my main concern right now.”

Where can I find him? you ask.
