Swamped Chapter 152 Page 7

If your hunch is right, they can’t really do anything if you redirect the ether. Mind, there’s a lot of it to redirect, so you think you’ve got to do it in a way that gets the wizard to intervene.

This is a problem when you don’t know where the wizard actually is. So, you follow the best lead you have – that strange trail to nowhere. You start guiding ether from the flight spell into the trail.

It’s definitely doing something, because the aura you see below is starting to float. Hmm. You thought you were sending it in the other direction, but maybe ether acts weird. Or maybe there’s some kind of defense on it. Well, you try switching directions – you think, anyways; you’re pretty new to this.

And all of a sudden, you feel something weird. Almost on instinct, you stop manipulating the ether…

But it goes completely still. No ether is flowing into, or out of it. The caster’s aura is staying perfectly still, too. Bizarre.

At the same time, you think you’re as safe as you’re going to be. You start running out, and motion to Mina to do the same. The floating tiles are eerily still, and even the air feels strangely stagnant. Thankfully, you don’t run into any more trouble.

When you hit the bottom floor, you see someone in a robe floating about a foot off the ground, and yet completely immobile.

“Well, that’s a new one,” Mina says. “What did you do, exactly?”

“I didn’t do this. Not directly, anyway,” you say, glancing at the frozen figure. “But I think I may have disturbed whatever’s responsible, and I don’t know what that means yet.”

“It probably means we should get out of here and sort out what we’re doing with that keg,” Mina grumbles.

“I suppose so. Could you get the door?”

Mina walks ahead and opens it. Then she quickly shuts it again.

“What’s wrong?” you ask.
