Swamped Chapter 145 Page 7

“That ship of yours swaps out crew every year at festival time, right?” Long continues. “I was wondering how many novices you had on board.”

“You mean, how many were on a first voyage?” the sister asks.

“Well, I was thinkin’ more, how many of them haven’t done a festival before,” Long explains. “I imagine they’d have a lot less time for ceremonies if they’re packing for a year-long ship ride.”

“We don’t let just anyone on,” she replies. “It’s true we have some priests in training, but they’ve all had at least three years before we allow them to join us. It’s unlikely a priest of Nual who comes to this town would go three years without taking some role in the festival.”

“Really,” Long says thoughtfully. “Then why are they taking down the sail? As I recall, it’s supposed to fly for the whole festival.”

The sister looks over at the ship.

“That is an excellent question. Perhaps you could have started with it.”

She starts walking off. Long follows her, and motions for you to come along.

“Um,” you say, pointing to the muckbeast that’s staring at your lantern.

He just chuckles in response. You suppose it’s up to you to figure out how to handle this, then.
