The easiest way to play this is to act the way you told those Slippers you would.
“Good job cornering him,” you suddenly announce. “Now, if you’ll let me do the talking, I think I can take care of this little problem of yours.”
“Who are you?” one of the guards asks. Definitely looks like the sort who doesn’t take orders from just anyone.
“We’ve been keeping an eye on this place. When we spotted the smoke, we came to investigate. And now we’re going to take care of this priest problem of yours, so the rest of you can get back to work. Plenty that still needs to be done, as I understand it.”
The one you’re directly talking to isn’t backing down, but the others seem nervous. They’re at least buying that you’re important. But this one isn’t.
“That doesn’t tell me who you are,” he growls.
You put a hand on your sword.
“I don’t see how that’s your business. If you don’t want me to deal with your problem for you, fine. I’ll just pass on that you were uncooperative, and you can stay here trying to keep that priest under control.”
He’s wavering, but just a little. Keeps staring at your sword hand.
You think he’s just a brawler – relies on brute strength, and gives no thought to technique. Which means he’s likely been trounced by someone with real training, and is wondering if he can really take you if it comes to a fight.
He doesn’t buy your story, which is smart of him since it isn’t true. But he’s also not the sort to pick a fight he won’t win. You think he’s sizing you up.
Well, you’ve dealt with his type before. Just show them you don’t even view them as a threat and they back down. So, for a start, you’re not waiting for him to respond.
“I also have better things to do than stand around here,” you reply after a pause. “So what’s it going to be?”
“Fine,” he mutters. “Go right ahead.”
You turn towards the room. Drip is just standing in the middle. He shows no sign of recognizing you.
Now, you’re not sure he’s seen your face, but he’s definitely seen your sword. Still, you think it might be best to start by making sure he knows who you are.
